It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month! All around the world, organizations are launching initiatives to make citizens aware of the latest developments in digital security.

When Cybersecurity Awareness Month first began, the advice to consumers focused mainly on how they should update their antivirus software twice a year.

Times have changed. This year, the organizers are encouraging citizens to focus on four key behaviors:

  • Enabling multi-factor authentication
  • Using strong passwords and a password manager
  • Updating software
  • Recognizing and reporting phishing

Of course, every month is Cybersecurity Awareness Month at iProov. We spend every minute of every day of every year making sure that people are safe online, using our patented face biometric authentication.

How does iProov support this year’s behaviors?

Enabling multi-factor authentication

It’s time to make MFA completely effortless for the end user so they don’t think twice about using it. Organizations should use iProov’s face biometric technology as a highly secure and very simple MFA factor. You always have your face with you, so the risk of not having your device to hand for a one-time passcode (OTP) – or not having a card reader on you when you want to make a payment – is removed. Other MFA methods, such as OTPs or card readers, can never give the full assurance that the person asserting their identity online is who they claim to be because devices can be shared or stolen. Your physical face cannot be shared or stolen. iProov’s Dynamic Liveness can deliver the assurance that the physical person at the end of an internet connection is who they say they are.

Using strong passwords and a password manager

Passwords are not fit for purpose. They are not secure and they cause huge amounts of frustration. Did you know that 32% of global consumers have had to request a password reminder in the last 24 hours? It’s time to replace passwords with face biometric authentication – which is simple, effortless, and secure – to ensure that consumers can log in first time, every time to pay for goods and services. Updating software

Updating software is very important for online safety. But governments and enterprises need to make things as simple as possible for citizens and customers. A smartphone can be compromised, which is why iProov processes its authentications in the cloud. If a face biometric authentication is completed in the cloud, it doesn’t matter if the device has been compromised – the iProov system will detect the anomaly and reject the authentication.

Who invented Cybersecurity Awareness Month?

Cybersecurity Awareness Month was launched by the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in October 2004 to help U.S. citizens stay secure online. Since then, other regions and countries have embraced the opportunity to promote digital safety.
